About - Freddie M

Story Written 2023

My son Freddie has recently been diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue cancer. He is being treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital and his local shared care hospital, Broomfield in Chelmsford. He has just turned 9 and has been through so much with operations, magic portal being fitted, chemotherapy, various scans and frequent hospital visits due to infection. The list is endless and this is only the beginning for him and his siblings. Freddie has had to adjust to having to do everything the doctors say or parents and has at times felt like his independence has been taken. He is frustrated and missing what he used to be able to do, his love of football and swimming has had to be paused for now. He loves to build lego and finds creating various art with his posco pens very relaxing.

He has been a super hero, his bravery amazes us everyday. He also has three siblings, Orlamae 11, Fionn, 6 and baby Bodhi, 1 whom have also had to adjust to Mummy & Daddy being away frequently, being able to plan days out has been impossible due to Freddie being poorly, life has changed drastically for them all. One of the parents in the ward we are staying on mentioned ‘Post Pals’ and how it had helped her child and siblings bring back the happiness and smiles that seem rare when you have a child with cancer. Freddie now lives day to day, we can’t plan in advance as each day he feels different. Exhaustion and sickness is a daily battle but we continue to remain positive and make as many good days as we can.
