Kennedy has sma type 1. This is a muscle wasting disease. Life expectancy is 2 years. Basically none of her muscles work for her at all but cognitively Kennedy is 100% well and very intelligent. This means her mind wants to do what we do, but her body doesn’t let her BUT we always get creative!

Update 11th July 2026

Kennedy is now 13 years old and lives with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. Despite facing significant challenges, including scoliosis and recent chest infections have been hard, Kennedy continues to take on life with an incredible smile, a wonderfully sarcastic sense of humour, and a determination that inspires everyone around her.

Music is one of Kennedy’s greatest passions. She loves listening to Olivia Rodrigo, Michael Jackson and dance music, and it’s never long before there’s a playlist on in the background.

Like any teenager, Kennedy loves spending time with her friends, keeping up with the latest gossip, and enjoying the privacy of her bedroom. She wishes she could get out and do more with her friends and she gets emotional sometimes, but she makes the most of every opportunity. When she’s feeling well enough, she loves going into school and being part of everyday life.

Kennedy also adores the colour pink, and she is especially excited as the family prepares for a trip to Spain very soon.

Above everything else, Kennedy is a funny, kind and resilient young person who faces each day with courage, positivity and a smile that lights up the room.
